Gas Fireplaces
Your factory built fireplace which can be installed in a day or two
at a substantially less cost than traditional masonry fireplaces can
go in almost any room. For realism, many gas fireplaces have glowing
coals and ember beds. And gas is so convenient — no mess or fuss.
The fire never smokes. It is also efficient, economical and
environmentally friendly burning natural gas or propane. Direct-vent
gas units exhaust their gases through the wall, in a similar fashion
to your clothes dryer. This eliminates the inconvenience and
sometime expensive cost of a vertical chimney or chase. Most gas
fireplaces work even when the power is out which could be a
lifesaver during severe weather conditions such as ice and
snowstorms.
Gas Stoves
A gas stove can either blend in with the existing decor of a room in
your home or can be the focal point of that room. The advent of
numerous technological advances have made gas stoves more efficient
and less expensive than in the past. In most situations, you can not
even tell the difference between the fire in a gas stove and that in
a woodburning stove. This free standing appliance is easily
installed with easy maintenance. And, of course, gas is so
convenient - no mess or fuss.
Wood Heaters
Wood Stoves
Today’s wood stoves burn cleaner and are much more efficient
than the models of yesteryear. They are low maintenance;
show a beautiful flame and provide controlled heat. These
wood stoves take up less floor space and are safer to use.
But maybe most importantly, they are considered reliable
protection against power outages and the seemingly ever
increasing prices of other fuels. Wood stoves can heat an
area in your home ranging from 600 square feet up to 3,000
square feet. For convenience; there are side or top or front
loading stoves to choose from.
Wood Fireplace Inserts
The use of wood fireplace inserts has significantly grown in
recent years. These are basically free standing stoves that
have been converted to fit into a fireplace. The face of the
fireplace is sealed off from the living area eliminating the
tremendous heat loss up the open chimney. A liner is often
needed in the chimney for safety reasons. Most inserts use a
blower system to circulate heat throughout the house.
Pellet Stoves
For those people looking to eliminate much of the work
involved in wood burning, a pellet stove or insert is an
excellent alternative. Pellets are made from recycled wood
waste and can be purchased in convenient 40 pound bags.
These are automatically fed into the fire via an auger
system and produce the cleanest burning wood fire possible.
Today’s pellet fuel costs have remained remarkably low. Some
pellet stoves and inserts offer conveniences such as
automatic ignitors and even fully automatic operation with
thermostat. If you want the bone-warming, even heat of a
real wood fire, but not the mess and effort, then a pellet
stove or insert is for you.
Electric Stoves & Fireplaces
The realism of today’s electric stoves and fireplaces must
be seen to be believed. Some manufacturers provide the
illusion of the fire by actually using holograms while
others use light, spinning drums and other unique materials.
In Europe, this category of hearth product is presently
exploding. A key selling point aside from the look of the
flame is the convenience. There are no gas lines or chimney
needed and the unit can go anywhere in the home. All you
need is a normal electrical outlet and a wall. As far as
heat output is concerned, even in an apartment or
condominium, an electric unit can provide the warmth of 5000
BTUs.
Questions on Placement and Installation?
We Have Your Answers!
Placement for Zone Heating
Why spend money heating those unoccupied rooms in your home,
especially at today’s high fuel costs? Hearth appliances are
a smart and economical way to regulate comfort levels from
room to room. While central furnace systems lose a portion
of their heating efficiency through ducting loss, hearth
products operate as high as 80% efficiency with no ducting
heat loss. Depending on your floor plan and hearth appliance
capabilities, you can heat one or several rooms or, in some
cases, your entire house more efficiently. As a rule, any
heating appliance operates best when it is centrally
located, most often on the main floor in one of the most
used rooms. At Frost & Flame, we’ll help you plan correctly.
